Design Criteria

Criteria Common to Both Sites
Both sites, driven by our own desire and the desire of our stakeholders, had some design criteria in common:

  Economic

  • No parking spaces may be lost to the facility
  • Cost-effective BMP
  Safety

  • The facility is not a dip in the parking lot like bioretention facilities, but is flush with existing grade
  Trees

  • Disease resistant
  • Low maintenance
  • Able to reach their full canopy at maturity (by providing adequate soil volume)
  Stormwater Management

  • Since infiltration was feasible at both sites: Capture, treat, and infiltrate up to the 25-year frequency design storm
  • If infiltration were not feasible: Capture and treat the water quality frequency storm
  • Protect against erosion
